What Qualifies You for Gastric Sleeve?
Age: 15 to 65 years (although this can be modified in certain situations; a medical review will be required for it).
Body Mass Index (BMI) Range: 27.5 and above.
Contraindications
No medical condition contraindicates the surgery except for a severely uncontrolled metabolic disorder, hematologic (coagulation) disorder, or mild to severe acid reflux.
People with existing acid reflux make candidates for bypass as sleeve can make it worse.
Additional Charges
Additional fees will be applicable in case of the following:
High BMI, Hepatitis C history (even if it is cured, it could still be potentially infectious), revision fee, or endoscopy if required.
We will consider it a revision surgery in case the patient has had plication, intragastric balloon, lap band, Nissen fundoplication, or GERD surgery previously.
Who Qualifies for Gastric Bypass Surgery?
Age: 15 to 65 years (exceptions apply; medical review needed).
BMI Range: 27.5 and above. Usually, patients with a BMI higher than 55 will be better candidates for a two-stage bariatric surgery (sleeve first, then the bypass after two years).
Gastric bypass is the surgery of choice for patients with type 2 diabetes or mild to severe reflux.
If you’ve had a weight loss surgery such as a sleeve, balloon, plication, lap band, or Nissen fundoplication, it will be considered revision surgery.
Contraindications: No medical condition contraindicates the surgery, except for severely uncontrolled metabolic or hematologic disorder.
Additional Fee: An additional fee is applicable on the following:
High BMI, revision fee, endoscopy, and infectious disease.
Who Qualifies for Revision Bariatric Surgery?

Types of Revision Bariatric Surgery
- Gastric Sleeve to Bypass
- Lap Band to Gastric Sleeve or Bypass (we’ll need to endoscopically remove the band)
- Balloon to Gastric Sleeve or Bypass
- Plication to Gastric Sleeve or Bypass
- Nissen Fundoplication to Gastric Bypass: We cannot convert a Nissen fundoplication to a gastric sleeve because the former is an anti-reflux surgery. Changing it to a sleeve will expose the patient to more severe reflux. So, we recommend a Nissen to gastric bypass revision surgery.
- Bypass to Bypass Revision: In this surgery, the surgeon cuts the stomach a bit more. They also make the smallest connection between the pouch and the intestine. The surgeon further tries to distalize the intestinal loop.
