Returning to work after weight loss surgery really depends on your position. Be it gastric bypass or sleeve surgery, your bariatric surgeon will give you explicit recommendations on how long they believe you need to take off from work depending on your job.

How Long Does It Take to Go Back to Work After Gastric Surgery?

  • Most people with desk jobs can return to work within 1 to 2 weeks.
  • Those of you that have more physically demanding jobs requiring you to lift, pull or carry a large amount of weight or stand for long periods of time may need to be off from work longer.

The main concerns of returning to work are for:

  • Safety
  • Avoiding complications of your surgery
  • Proper healing.

As for your nutrition, the main concern is to make sure that you are adequately hydrating your body after bariatric surgery and getting at least 64 ounces of low calorie, sugar-free and decaf fluids daily. Take care that you are fueling your body regularly and getting the right amount of calories, proteins and other nutrients that you need.
